Dear European film fans,

I am very happy that the 28th edition of the Days of European Film will take place largely in cinemas with audiences! After more than ten months, we will be able to immerse ourselves in the magical world of film in the darkness of cinemas. In the middle of June, we can once again enjoy film debuts or award-winning films from festivals in different parts of Europe.

This year’s edition responds, among other things, to the covid-19 pandemic and brings some of the themes and situations that have come more to the surface in this specific functioning and long-term isolation. These are not easy topics and it is all the more important to talk about them. I very much appreciate that the festival organizers are not afraid to bring these topics up, even though it can be a hard show to digest at times. I firmly believe that this year’s programming novelty – a section called “To the point: Seclusion” – will remain for this year only and we will only sentimentally remember the isolationists at the next edition of DEF.

Dear European film fans, I am looking forward to seeing you all again in the cinemas and at the accompanying events. I wish you a good show and a wonderful experience, not only in the cinema.
